Athena Liu and Paolo Foppiani: A Union of Finery

MILAN–Fashion maven and perpetual globetrotter, Athena Liu and her husband, top Italian lawyer Paolo Foppiani, open up their Milan home — an abode as tastefully furnished as their wardrobe. Athena transferred her New York spirit into the home decor and designed some of the pieces herself: the blue velvet couch made by artisans in Brianza, Italy, the abstract artwork she painted, and the Maison Jansen console table she restored by hand. On the other side of the early 20th century downtown Milan apartment, Athena’s closet is defined by luxurious day-to-night items to accommodate her jet set lifestyle, while lavish evening wear pieces and exotic jewelry render her closet unreplicably distinct. Born with an innate sense of elegance and affinity for hand-made clothing, Paolo has a knack for setting himself apart from the rest of the white collar world with bold patterns and colorful accessories that enhance his wardrobe of classic custom suits. This week Paolo ushers in Pitti Uomo by sharing with us one of his bespoke tuxedos designed by Parma tailor Aimi & Gigliotti — also featured this week in BACO.
